1 . have to 不得不，必須
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗該詞相當于must 。must含主觀(guān)性比較強烈。have to含客觀(guān)性強。
She doesn't feel well , she has to go to see a doctor . 她感到身體不好，她得去看醫生 ( 看病 ) 。
注意對比：I must go home now . I have nothing else to do .
I have to go home now . I have an important thing to do . I will leave for Shanghai tomorrow .
2 . tidy 弄整潔，弄整齊
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗該詞可作動(dòng)詞也可作形容詞。
Little Lucy can tidy ( up ) her own room . 小露茜能收拾她自己的房間了。
This is a tidy room . 這是整潔的屋子。
You must keep the room tidy . 你必須保持房間的整潔。
3 . washing 沖洗，洗 ( 衣 ) ，洗澡
I want to do some washing this evening . 今天晚上我想洗衣服。
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗do some washing洗衣服。a washing machine洗衣機。
Please wait a moment . He is washing now .
4 . baby 嬰兒，年齡最小的人
What a lovely baby ! 多可愛(ài)的嬰兒啊 !
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗a baby boy男嬰，a baby girl女?huà)搿?/p>
The baby is crying all the night . Perhaps she is ill .
5 . garden 花園，庭園，菜園
There are many kinds of flowers in the garden . 花園里有許多種花。
They are working in the garden .
6 . volleyball 排球
He likes playing volleyball very much . 他非常喜歡打排球。
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗play volleyball打排球。注意球類(lèi)名詞前不用冠詞。又如：
All the boys and girls are playing volleyball at the back of our school .
7 . instead 代替，頂替
Please give me this instead . 換這個(gè)給我吧。
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗instead 是副詞，常放在句末。
instead of 是介詞詞組，of 后面接名詞、代詞或相當名詞的詞。表示1 ) 代替，以代。如：
I will go instead of you . 我愿代你去。
2 ) 而不，而不是
Instead of working , he had a good rest . 他好好休息了一下而沒(méi)有工作。
注意instead of連接的對等平行結構：They will go there by bus instead of on foot .
8 . mommy = mummy 媽媽 ( 美國英語(yǔ) )
I am hungry , mommy . 我餓了，媽媽。
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗口語(yǔ)中還用mum一詞表示“媽媽”。mother是書(shū)面語(yǔ)。
9 . tired 疲勞的，累的
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗注意 tiring 是“令人疲勞的”。That is a tiring job .那是一件令人疲勞的工作。
Are you tired ? 你累嗎 ?
She looks tired out . 她顯得疲憊不堪。
10 . rest 休息
Sit down and rest for a while . 坐下來(lái)休息一會(huì )兒。
Let's rest ( have a rest ) here , shall we ? 我們在這里休息一下，好嗎 ?
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗take / have a rest = take / have a break休息一下。
另外，rest還可以作“其余的”講。The rest of the boys are short .
11 . problem 問(wèn)題，習題
Today we'll think about the second problem . 今天我們要思考一下第二道習題。
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗該詞有待解決的問(wèn)題，而 question 為有待回答的問(wèn)題。
－ May I ask a question , Miss Gao ?
－ Of course , please .
12 . fat 肥的，胖的，
She is a fat girl . 她是個(gè)胖女孩。
Nobody likes fat now . 現在沒(méi)有人喜歡吃肥肉。
〖 點(diǎn)撥 〗該詞可作名詞表肥肉。fat的反義詞是：thin 。
My mother is thin , but my father is too fat .
13 . thin 瘦的，薄的，稀薄的
The ice on the lake is too thin for skating . 湖上的冰太薄，不能溜冰。
