The slave was made to work twelve hours a day. = The slave was forced to work twelve hours a day.

2 fight for / agaist sth / sb

The slaves fought hard against slavery for their freedom.

It is 10,000 dollars that the competitors are fighting against each other for.

3 no more than: only

not more than: 不超過(guò)

500 people were supposed to attend the conference, but there were no more than 300 of them when it started.= …but there were only 300 people of them …

He is no more than a child. = He is only a child.

4 call for sth: 為獲得…而呼吁;需要… call for sb: 去…家取某物或與其一同去某地 / 約請(qǐng)
